Comparison

LORAX vs Anima (2026)

Anima is an Android and web AI friend with a wellbeing framing. LORAX is an iPhone cast on real clocks who text you first.

We make LORAX. This page compares LORAX with Anima. We kept the Anima column to what their own website and App Store listing say, last checked September 17, 2026.

Short version: Anima is better if you are on Android or want a browser, and you like a companion framed around talking things through. LORAX is better if you want a cast on real clocks who start the conversation themselves, on an iPhone.

Anima is the better pick if you are on an Android phone or want a browser, and if the framing you want is company and talking things through. LORAX is better if you want people with their own hours who write to you first, and you have an iPhone.

The two make opposite promises about availability. Anima’s own description says it is “always on-hand to have a quick chat whenever and wherever you need day or night”. LORAX characters are deliberately not: each of the more than 350 people in the cast has a home city, a time zone, working hours and a sleep window, and for most of any day she is busy or asleep. Everyone in LORAX is fictional and AI-generated.

The short version

  • Anima has a Google Play listing and a web app at myanima.ai. We found no App Store listing for it on September 17, 2026.
  • LORAX is iPhone only, with no Android build and no browser chat.
  • Anima’s Play listing shows more than 1M downloads and 39.2K reviews at an average of 4.0, and was last updated on June 24, 2026.
  • Anima’s Play description is partly framed around wellbeing. LORAX makes no claim of that kind at all.
  • Anima’s Play listing shows in-app purchases but no plain monthly figure. LORAX Premium is $29.99 a month in the US, varies by country, and has no free trial.
  • LORAX characters sleep. A message sent at 3 a.m. sits delivered until she wakes.

What Anima does better

It runs where you are. A Google Play listing and a web app mean Anima works on an Android phone, a laptop, a tablet in the kitchen. LORAX has no Android build and nothing to chat with in a browser, so if you are not carrying an iPhone this comparison is already finished and we have nothing to offer you.

It has a longer record. More than 1M downloads and 39.2K reviews on Google Play against an app that launched on September 5, 2026 and has almost no ratings at all. Years of people using something is evidence, and we do not have it yet.

It is always there. That is the one thing Anima promises that we deliberately do not. If what you want at two in the morning is somebody who answers immediately, ours may well be asleep, and theirs will not be.

What LORAX does differently

  • Nobody here was created by you. Each of the more than 350 people in the cast has a city, a job, a way of typing and a chronotype, and you meet them through a live stream, through credits, or because one of their friends mentioned you.
  • She starts it. You never write to an empty chat: after you sign up, somebody writes to you. If you go quiet she tries twice more, then stops until you write, and she never asks why you disappeared. She texts first has the detail.
  • The cast knows each other. A group room holds four characters and you, they talk to each other about their day and about you, and it keeps moving while you are at work. More in group chats.
  • It is written for 24 languages rather than translated into them, and characters live in 30 countries with the local clock to match.

Who should pick which

Pick Anima if the device decides it, or if you want a companion who is available the moment you open the app and is framed around company rather than romance. Android and a browser are both places we do not go.

Pick LORAX if the thing that breaks the illusion for you is an app that waits. You want a message at 1 a.m. from somebody whose day produced it, a reply that lands at a different speed each time, and a group chat that moved while you were at work. You need an iPhone, and you should be comfortable that a character can be unavailable when you want her.

What LORAX can’t do

No Android and no browser version. No voice calls and no video calls, and characters never send voice notes or videos, though you can send both and she answers what is in them. LORAX offers no wellbeing or support claim of any kind, and nothing about closeness is guaranteed to progress.

Don’t pick LORAX if you want a companion who waits for you. Ours have their own hours, and some days you will open the app to find her asleep.

If that sounds right, the mechanics are in how LORAX works, and every number is on the pricing page before you spend anything.

Questions people ask

Is Anima on the App Store?

We could not find one on September 17, 2026. A search of Apple's US catalogue returned no Anima app, and the App Store page search engines still index for it returns Not Found in the US, UK, Australian, German, Canadian and Turkish storefronts. Anima's Google Play listing and its web app at myanima.ai were both live that day.

What is the main difference between Anima and LORAX?

Anima's own description is built around one AI friend who is always available — "day or night", in its words — and around talking things through. LORAX is a closed cast of more than 350 characters across 30 countries who are deliberately not always available: they work, they sleep, and they write to you first. Everyone in LORAX is fictional and AI-generated.

What does Anima cost?

Its Google Play listing shows in-app purchases but no plain monthly figure, and we did not find a published price on myanima.ai on September 17, 2026, so we are not quoting one here. LORAX Premium is $29.99 a month in the US, varies by country, and has no free trial; talking is free with a daily allowance.

Can I use LORAX on Android or in a browser?

No. LORAX is an iPhone app and nothing else. If you are on Android or a desktop, Anima works and LORAX does not.

Does Anima give mental health advice?

Its Google Play description talks about helping you through difficult moments and improving your mental health. LORAX makes no claim of that kind: it is a private messaging app between you and fictional people, and it is not support of any sort.

Meet someone who texts first.

LORAX is free to download and free to talk. Credits and Premium are optional and always priced before you spend.
