How we picked

Every number below came from one of two places on 2026-09-13: the app’s live US App Store listing, read in full including the in-app purchase list, or the app’s own published pricing page where it has one. Nine of the ten have an App Store listing. Candy AI does not, so its row comes from its subscriptions page.

Where a company publishes nothing, the cell says so. Nothing here is estimated. No price was carried over from a previous version of a listing, and none was taken from a third-party roundup.

The apps qualify on one rule: they are companion products people actually shortlist, and their price is readable somewhere without creating an account.

How to read these prices

Four things make published prices less comparable than they look. None of them is obvious from the number itself.

Prices are set per country, not per person. Apple sells from a fixed ladder of price points in each of its storefronts, and a developer picks one per country. The figure you see depends on where your Apple account is registered, not where you happen to be standing. LORAX Premium is $29.99 a month in the US and a different number in most other places, which is why the app shows you the price before anything is spent rather than printing one number on a website.

App Store prices and website prices are separate decisions. Candy AI bills from its own site and prints $13.99 a month. Everyone else in this table bills through Apple, which takes a commission, and that commission tends to show up in the number. When a company sells both ways, the in-app price is usually the higher one.

Subscriptions renew until you stop them. Anything bought through the App Store is canceled in your Apple account settings rather than inside the app, and cancelling before the period ends still leaves the remaining days paid for. Weekly plans are the ones to watch: CHAI Ultra Weekly at $19.99 and AIBoy Premium Access at $7.99 a week both read cheap and do not stay cheap.

Second currencies sit on top of plans, not inside them. Eight of the ten apps here sell a currency alongside a subscription: gems, coins, opals, Charms, Pieces, Neurons, rings, credits. A plan price is a floor. Budget for both. In LORAX, credits are what pay for one-off items such as opening a photo a character chose to send, and they are kept separate from Premium on purpose, because the alternative is a subscription that quietly has to cover everything and gets priced accordingly.

Which one for you

You want the lowest monthly outlay. Character.AI Lite at $2.49 is the cheapest recurring product in the table, and Character.AI+ at $9.99 is the cheapest full tier from a major name.

You want one bill and nothing else. That is harder than it sounds, because almost everyone sells a currency too. Nomi at $15.99 and Kindroid at $15.99 are the clearest subscription-first products here, and both still sell credits.

You want to know the price before you install. Only two apps in this table publish a price outside the App Store: Candy AI, which is web only and adult-oriented, and ours. Everything on our plans page matches the App Store, and there is no trial and no introductory offer to expire on you. Everyone in LORAX is fictional and AI-generated, and the app runs on iPhone only, with no voice calls and no video calls.
